Volvo Reveals Engine Drive-E 3-cylinder 180HP

Volvo has finally revealed details of its new three-cylinder petrol engine, following reports and reviews in recent months.

The new plant will join the family-E engine Drive wider, which until now focused on the four-cylinder petrol, diesel and petrol-electric option.

When the project was announced this week, Dr Peter Mertens from Volvo said the new engine will be fully developed engine in Sweden, separately for continuing the work of the company in China with its mother company, Geely.

"We've come a long way in recent years in Volvo," said Dr. Mertens.

"The investment from our parent company, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, has enabled us to recapture our position as a leader in the field of engine engineering. Development program for the new 3-cylinder engine is very advanced and we have already started tests on a prototype unit. "

The new engine will have a capacity of 1.5 liters, and although development is still ongoing, high output 180HP Volvo predict - compete with a larger engine category.

The new engine is being developed with a focus on next-generation small car - which will be used on both new platform called 'CMA' - but that the S60 and V60 models will also get a new engine as well.

"The beauty of the new 3-cylinder engine that we developed is that it can be built on the same production line 4-cylinder engine, we offer flexible production potential that can be customized to meet the needs of the business in line with the company's development," Dr Mertens said.

The new plant is expected to help Volvo to achieve the target of corporate emissions 95g / km for Europe in 2020, where the current average is 120g / km.
